Happy #Well-TailoredWednesday and happy new year! One of my goals for this year is to blog more, so expect more posts from me! One of the first books I read this year was Yours Truly by A. Rituparna. In full honesty, I read this book as a favor to my mom, who is friends with the author, but I was pleasantly surprised and ended up really enjoying it.
This book was incredible. It’s especially incredible how the author is able to paint such vivid imagery through only a few words. While the author said that her stories are based on both real experiences and conjecture, the emotion remains consistently strong throughout the stories. At times her words are raw and cutting, while at others, they are massaged.
“Ignoring all the criticism and vile jibes, she created an identify for herself”
The book is written as a series of short stories. They’re not poems exactly, but they kind of look like it. At first, it takes a little getting used to, but after a few stories you come to realize that no other format works as good for each story. The hard periods, the few transition words, the powerful one-word sentences, all really add to the emotion you take away as you read each story.
Calm and peaceful on the surface. But with turmoil within. Just like me.
For all these reasons, I give this book a full 5/5. Be sure to check out my other book reviews here. Thanks for reading and please feel leave your thoughts in the Comments’ section below!
